Protected PDFs are not supported, including ones that open without a password but restrict printing, copying or editing. Remove the protection first, then try again.
Only text that is stored as text in the PDF can be extracted. Scanned pages and text inside images contain no selectable text, and OCR (text recognition) is not included. Text comes out in the order it is stored in the PDF, so columns, tables and the page layout may not match what you see on the page.
